Spiritual support network and resources for families who have loved ones that are absent.

Some voids can’t be filled.

But together, we can ease the burden.

Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, Ramadan, Kwanza, and New Year’s Day can be challenging holidays for families who are dealing with the absence of a loved one.

In His Absence is committed to helping ease the burden of families who have loved ones who are absent due to incarceration, death, divorce, or broken relationships.

Meet Our Executive Director, Shawnda Asby

Meet Ms. Asby, Small Business Owner, Community Leader, and Advocate

Ms. Asby, a Lowcountry native, lived in Mount Pleasant, SC, for most of her life before settling in Greenville, SC, where she felt called to expand her community footprint. With a passion for helping others achieve their goals, she wears many hats: mom, Realtor, and small business owner of Asby Business Center LLC.

Aside from her business pursuits, Ms. Asby is actively involved in various community outreach programs. She served as a youth director at East Cooper Church of Christ, led the prison ministry at Greater Goodwill AME Church, and serves on the Advisory Council for the SC Lowcountry Chapter of Kairos Outside Prison Ministry. She has also volunteered with Harvest Pointe Church in North Charleston and the nonprofit Charleston Community Impact Corp., which empowers under-resourced and at-risk communities.

Ms. Asby founded In His Absence after experiencing the loss of someone close to her and realizing the importance of having a supportive community in times of need. Her mission is to provide a place for individuals to connect with God and others meaningfully.

“Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it. Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.” - Hebrews 13:1-3
